Considering a move to Central America?
-
I am wondering if I can purchase a used travel trailer, and take it to.....let's just say Costa Rica,I am wondering if I can do this,& rent or buy a piece of property, and I will have my housing dilemma satisfied.Has anyone tried this and is it a practical idea?I just figure having my living quarters already satisfied,& having to find a piece of land to place it on would be the "WAY TO GO" I have to take into consideration, money, which I don't have a lot of.I just am "chomping at the bit" to get the hell out of (Dodge)the U.S.,as I have some serious reservations about the future,& I, personally have a feeling that something bad is coming, and putting some distance between myself and the Nation that gave 12 years of my life to defending (U.S.Army) is piece of mind worth having,as I grow old.I am disabled,by way of cigarettes(C-rations came with a 4pack years ago.)& I want to live out the remainder of my years, doing some reading in a tropical environment. My little bit of paradise.I want to live about a half mile above sea level, and on the Atlantic side of wherever.I have toyed with the idea of seeking like-minded folks(vets?)along the lines of a commune.(I don't think that "commune" is the right word, exactly)but a group of people that have a desire to re-locate,and with security and safety of family and "community"as a common bond.I am the type of person who will stand and defend the people & property of those around me.Just thought that I would use this forum,to toss ideas out and see what becomes of it.I haven't done much homework on places to re-locate,but I am going to the local library on Monday & get the wheels turning.

Answer:
I investigated doing just exactly that. This is becoming popular with US citizens. ok.. the deal is, for you to get permission to live there, you have to prove an income of at least $1500. per month. You can live quite well. Property costs are going up..but..rent is still cheap I backed off from the decision after doing a quick visit. The health care is really poor in most areas. But, while I was there a road washed out and the mud slide killed an entire bus of tourists..also a volcano was putting huge amounts of ash up. really bad. So.. basically, I think your idea would work. You probably should look for someone who wants to do this with you. Safety for you and other.
