Where is the best place to live in Philadelphia?

Where is the best place or town for families with children to live within a 50 mile radius of Philadelphia?

  • Jersey, Pennsylvania doesn't matter. Thank you for your opiniions and imput. Not too affluent. More middle. Stable neighborhood. Pleasant. $240,000 max.

    Southampton, Lansdale, Montgomeryville, and parts of Pottstown are all nice. Parts of Pottstown are run down, so you have to choose carefully. Stay away from Croyden, Bristol and Besalem. Some very "rough" types there. Alos be careful in Cheltnham. Mid-north Bucks County is good and mid-north Montgomey County is good; Stay away from Norristown.

Chester County or Delaware County in Pennsylvania. New Jersey - has the worst property taxes in the USA. For what would be a $200,000 house in PA - with about $2,000 in property taxes, in New Jersey it is $5,000 to $10,000 per YEAR! You want to pick a neighborhood that increases in value because your property will also increase, and both Chester & Delaware Counties have fairly good schools - and you can check them out ahead of time. I live in one of those counties. GOD bless us always.

I would strongly recommend Delaware, actually. Cost of living and taxes in Delaware are significanly lower than the 5-county Philadelphia area as well as South Jersey. Delaware has excellent schools, a robust job market, low crime rates, etc. Plus no state sales tax! Visit realtor.com and check out some of the homes in Wilmington. The northern suburbs of Wilmington put you less than a half hour from Center City Philadelphia. I've lived all over the Delaware Valley and now live in Delaware. I wouldn't ever considering moving to PA or NJ again.

Check out Abington Township. It's just North of the City, has some of the best public schools, and little taxes.
