How big is an acre?

Water rights, what are they and how important are they? we once own 300 acre of water rights now its 30 acre?

• We are a small community of under 30 homeowners and back in the early 90's former board members gave up 270 acre of our water rights. Was this a big mistake or are we ok?

  As you tie-in to city water pipes, you are forced to give up certain rights to the water under your land. It is slightly possible that you are sitting on top of a wonderful source of pure fresh water. That could have been sold for $Millions. It is also possible that you have lost nothing ......because you can't always tell where your water ends and the city's begins. In some states, a developer of a new subdivision can not start construction until they have water rights adequate to provide for all the new homeowners. That developer would have "bought" your rights if you were sitting on water.
