Where can I find some legit internships in Orange County?

Is there a FREE way to find out if someone is a legit homeowner?

  • Found this house to rent. Real nice and Dirt cheap!! (first strange thing) supposedly the homeowner is in another country (2nd odd thing) he approved us immidiately w hardly an application process at ALL (3rd odd thing) and he wants 1500 wired to him in Nigeria b4 he gives us the keys (fianl strange thing) Now, we looked this guy up and he has a legit deed of trust for the property on the county recorder website, the For Rent sign outside the house lists HIS number (he never answers it, but the voicemail says his name) and the property isnt showing up on forclosure lists. Oh, also, hes only communicating via email..not answering that number like i said (5th odd thing i guess) Theres just some fishy feelings, so I want to know who I contact or where I can look to figure out if this guy is legit and the house is really his to sell...cuz I know you can put things on the internet. Is there a hotline that helps with this kind of stuff?

  • Answer:

Your county records office should have the deed on file, and it's public record. Visit them and ask if you can get a look. Or ask a real estate broker of s/he can look it up for you. At a guess, though, I'd say it's about as fishy as the ocean, twice as wide and 4 times as deep. I wouldn't send him a stamp until I checked the deed and got a copy of a photo ID emailed to me.

Do not send the money!! It is a SCAM. Scammers in Nigeria have been taking information off of real estate for sale/rent sites, supposed placing the place up for rent and then trying to lure victims in to sending money to them. If anything involves Nigeria (or anywhere else in Western Africa) it is a SCAM. Period. No exceptions.

RUN away from this as fast as your little legs will carry you. The guy your are talking to is NOT the same guy as owns the house, even though he says he is. It's terribly easy to find out the legitimate owner's real name, and then claim to be that person. If you contact the REAL owner via the name and address listed on the county website, you will discover the REAL story.

You can't be serious, can you? Nigeria?

Virtually anything related to Nigeria is a scam. If it seems too good to be true, it is. If you can look up online who is listed as the owner of the property, what makes you think the scammers can't? They obviously did and are using the owner's name. I hope you haven't provided any bank account information or your social security number. You can check out scamwarners.org for more information but I wouldn't trust a thing from this person. The phone number could just be a free number that anyone can obtain that only goes to voicemail. Not sure about how they got a sign up in front of the house unless perhaps it is abandoned right now. Good luck.

does that add up..everyone around you are struggling to keep their homes..ppl have lost their homes...banks arent lending money or making modifications...Wells Fargo claimed out of the millions of customers they have, 9,000 have received mortgage help...And this guy from Nigeria is offering u something that u know is fishy...Are you really gonna give ur money to someone you havnt talked to even over the phone?

It's true, anything from Africa is a 100% scam. If you really wanted to find out though you need to go to the county property appraiser's website that the property is located in and do a search. They usually let you search by name, address, etc...all property ownership is a matter of public record in the U.S.

Scam, scam, scam, oh and did I say scam?

starrfyrre

probably a scam. My guess: A Nigerian con man is impersonating the real owner, who may well be clueless.

The State Tax assessors office, many of which are online, can show you who owns the property as well as if they are paying tax bills on time. usually www.statename.gov will get you to the tax assessors office. tell the nigerian you will not wire funds till you enter property via key. L
