Can I get financial help while living abroad?

PLEASE HELP! Living in San Jose CA with $50k and we can't get into ANY apartments?!?

  • My mother and father divorced about a year ago, he left my mother and I with our home and he agreed to pay half the mortgage every month until we got our house sold, since we can't make the payments on our own we agreed to sell the house. Now we have money from the house around $50,000 but we cannot get accepted anywhere because my mother has an under the table job, and I myself don't make enough money to qualify either, we've tried offering people 6 months advanced rent, we've told them we could get a letter from my mother's employer as proof of income, we don't have anyone to co-sign for us either...so we're forced to go live in a motel until we figure out where to go..this is ridiculous, we have money, we have jobs, but we cannot get accepted ANYWHERE! Is there any way possible around this situation? I'm desperate for help we don't want to live on a motel forever now..

  • Answer:

Your mother uses her income tax returns to prove income. Not a letter, I don't believe anyone asked for a letter. It is a felony not to pay taxes on the income, so if your mother has decided to be a criminal she will have to live like one. Criminals all live in south San Jose. Look over by the fairgrounds, you should find someone who houses criminals over there. The police pretty much turn their backs and let the landlords deal with tenants as they see fit.

Other answers

There is no such thing as an under the table job. Your mom is required to claim all money earned. She can do her taxes (including all years she has not claimed) and pay the proper taxes = you would then have tax returns to prove her income. Ask Wesley Snipes what it feels like spending 8 years in jail for not claiming income on taxes. I'm sure he would much rather be at a bb game than sitting in a jail cell. Don't pretend this can't happen to "everyday people" because it does everyday.
