How much should I bring for parking on South Street in Philly?

Can a landlord deny you use of the pool and parking lot if you have bad credit and your wifes was good?

  • Since i had bad credit I'm not allowed to use the pool or any other amenities of the apartment complex without my wife accompanying me.We also had two parking spaces but Im not allowed to use them either and they hassle me when i park in the street. She signed a 1 year lease and there's still 6 months left. Im not a bad person at all, im actually a very nice person and all the other tenants like me. The landlord did as well untill he ran my credit. We cant get out of the lease but I dont want to have to bring my "mommy" just do do the laundry or swim in the pool. My name is on the lease too but since they said we are renting with her credit that they have the right to do this to me. Is it legal?

  • Answer:

If you are on the lease and obligated to pay rent (ie, you are if you are on the lease), then you have a legal right to all the benefits from the lease. As a practical matter, not sure how to resolve this issue other than to say that your landlord doesn't understand credit. The collective ability of two people to repay a loan is better than either of their ability to repay it separately. Most people assume it is the average of their credit scores, but it isn't.

You are a customer and can leave. You are on your landlord's property. Yes, it is legal. Strange... but legal.

Sounds a littel screwy to me. I would check with a real estate attorney. If both names are on lease then you both should be able to enjoy the amenities. They may have given you the apartment because of her credit, but that does not exclude you from the use of the amenities and the parking. Sounds illegal to me.

This is definately not legal in California, I don't know what planet you are on, but I suspect that it's illegal on mars too. Check with an attorney. You should have a case. PS realtor CA.
