Are the FEMA trailers safe?

Are the people that are moving to New Orleans to work qualified to live in one of the FEMA trailers?

  • My husband and I want to move to N.O. to work (we were thinking of this even before Katrina). We just would like to know if we would "qualify" for a FEMA trailer, or are those just for homeowners? Thanks so much!

  • Answer:

I do not think so. I think it is only for those families that lived here prior to the storm. The city is currently looking to re-vamp 10,000 aprtments for rent. Be patient. There is plenty of rental property on out lying areas. The suberbs that I live in have plenty to offer and it is only 30 mins from New Orleans without traffic. With traftic it is about an hour.

No. You would have to have already applied for FEMA help and be on the waiting list. You could get your own trailer, but you would still need a place to put it and have water and sewerage hookups. Start looking for apartments, they are coming available every day and being snapped up fast.
