How can I remove a name from a bank account?

  • I opened an account with my mother when I was still a minor (17) at Wells Fargo. She has access to the account because she still has a card to it and it is linked to her account. Useful at the time, but not now! Is there anyway I can remove her name from the account without having to close it?

    I would of thought your mother would of had to remove herself from the account by signing something to that effect. Not sure about the US, but in the UK i think it could of been set up so that once your not a minor it automatically becomes the property of the child. If Wells Fargo are annoying about it just start an account elsewhere, banks usually offer incentives to new customers and dont seem concerned about keeping existing ones.

Call wells fargo and ask if she can remove her name over the phone. Get a new debit card and cancel the old ones.
