Can't Afford My Living Expenses?

  • I don't think i can afford my living expenses. Currently i'm living in Palm Beach with my mother and have been offered admission to UCF in fall. I have just recently financed a car and all together my personal expenses come to $1100 a month. Right now I can handle that amount no problem. I am a full time student at the state college here and my job not only pays good, but works around my schedule. The issue i have run into now is that i have just found out that in a few months my job will be ending. I have no clue how I will be able to afford $1100 a month as i am only 18, a full time college student, and have no career. Obviously I have some huge choices to make. Will I be able to find another job at my age where i am able to maintain my lifestyle ($1100+ per month)? Or will i have to sell my car and terminate the loan or have it repossessed? I would really love to go to UCF, but with my living expenses and college tuition (even though i have received scholarships), I don't think i will find a job in Orlando at my age that will enable me to afford everything. What do you guys suggest I do?

    Do what ever it takes. When you get to the school find out which majors have paid internships and work school opportunities. Major in the highest paid Senior internship you can find. Study like a mad dog cause to get that money you have to do more than "skate by". Your biggest problem is studying not earning money. Dumpster diving is a skill you need to refine.

Obviously you need to look for another job AND you need to cut your expenses. $1100 a month is a lot of money. Millions of people make do on a fraction of that number. Time to get a roommate to share rent expense, lose the expensive cell phone plan, stop buying clothes, sell the car and take the bus, stop wasting money in bars, etc, etc, etc. Are you really going to pass up a college education because you don't want to be a little frugal?
