I opened RRSP account in 2005 & last year I requested partial transfer to another institution, unfortunately delivery institution closed my account in 2011, having a worth of 20 000 stocks in the account. And in 2012 feb, I noticed my account is closed so I contacted the institution to re-open my account. But the institution refused to reopen it. They said that I have to submit a new application and they will issue a new account number. Once a new account is generated, then thy will do a transfer to a new account to the closed account. Why are they refusing to reopen the account? Is there any impact with tax implications or is this a CRA guidelines that the institution is following?
