Hi Here are tips on how you can save money for your groceries: Make sure you aren't hungry before you go to the Grocery Store – studies have shown that shoppers tend to buy more in the grocery stores when they are hungry. This is the reason why some grocery shops have their bakery along the entrance of the store. The smell of the freshly baked breads and cakes could really make you hungry. And this could make you shop and spend more than what you intended. The best way to handle this is to make sure your stomach is not empty, if no food can be taken; drink at least a glass or two of water. Shopping when you’re full will surely help you combat the temptations of the mouth-watering smells inside the grocery store. Try to look up and down on the shelves – make sure that you search the higher and lower shelves. The more expensive brands are normally located on the shelves on your chest level. The cheaper or generic brands are either located below or higher than your average sight. Shop alone – try to find time to go to the grocery store by yourself. When you ask for helpers, they tend to increase your bill. Go to the store at the early time of the day – when you go to the grocery store early in the morning, you tend to finish with your list a little faster, thus avoiding the need to roam around and get attracted to unnecessary expenses. Shop when you are in a good mood – when you shop and you feel tired, you tend to buy more sweets, chocolates and high-carbohydrates. And when you are mad, you tend to buy more junk food. Don't buy non-grocery items – grocery shops normally sell some non-grocery items like contact lens and painkillers. These products normally cost more at the grocery stores. Always bring your calculator – make sure to shop with your calculator. In this way, you can easily compute how much you save when buying in-packs or individually wrapped items. Check your receipts every after shopping, mistakes can happen no matter how much you avoid them. Remember that every cent counts. Buy foods that are fresh, cheap and seasoned food. With fewer dealers involved, the cheaper, fresher and better quality of food that you can get for your family. Make sure to double check the weighs of the pre-packed goodies that you buy. Sometimes they lack a little pound or weigh less than what they normally should. Make it a point that you get all your hard-earned money’s worth. When you specifically went to your favorite grocery shop for a definite item on sale and suddenly knowing that it’s no longer available. Make sure that you make a rain check and ask for the next stocks to arrive. So that you’ll be early the next time the stocks reach the store. Check the ends and edges of the grocery store. More often than not, the healthy and fresher which are less processed foods are located at the ends of the grocery shops. Fruits, vegetables, Dairy products and meats are examples of these. Avoid walking thru the main areas, since these regions are normally where the products are very expensive and cost more. It’s important to focus on the price of the item. Make sure to check the other brands to be certain of getting the best deal. Also, buy only what you need. Sometimes, you get deceived when you get to buy things that are on sale even if you don't need them. If this happens, you didn't get the bargain no matter how cheap it seemed. Don't be mislead with the brilliant colored packaging of the grocery shops. They normally pack certain items simply to attract. Focus on your list and buy things that you need. Good luck and hope that helps! Take care Paul

1. When at home, always keep an ongoing list of foods that you want or need (as you run out of things) Take this list with you to the store. 2. When you enter the store, look for an advertisement (piece of paper) that may show things on sale.....some that you can stock up on now, even though you may not use it until a later date. 3. Buy in Bulk, which means buy the larger containers of some items, even though you may not use for a long time. Example: instead of buying 1 roll package of paper towels, I usually buy the 8 roll package of paper towels (on sale). 4. Buy and eat certain foods "in season", because they are usually on sale. Right now, strawberries are in season and on sale where I live.....in 3 months, watermelon will be in season and will be on sale. 5. Never shop when you are hungry because you won't make wise purchases. 6. Stuff you can "make at home" is always less expensive than stuff you buy "already made". Example: I can buy prepackaged spaghetti or pasta dishes in frozen food section....but I can buy the basic stuff and make at home for 1/3 of the cost. 7. Consider clipping coupons from newspapers. Remember: When it comes to money spent on food the Biggest Money Waster is not at the store.....it is that people eat out far, far, too much and it takes away a lot of their money. "Eating out" too frequently is the biggest waste of money there is.

Use the manufacturer's coupons. But sometime the store brand can be less. Use the mail ciruclars they send to you and buy that stuff when on sale. Get a rewards card from the store to also reduce your prices. Many ways to save each trip to the store

I'm just starting out too and I know it probably sounds corny, but clipping coupons really does make a difference. Buy a paper each week and clip out coupons on the products you buy or would like to try (clip while you're watching TV on Sunday night). Then, just keep them with you when shopping and match up the coupons to what's on sale at the grocery store. (Some grocery stores like Tops and Giant Eagle even double and triple coupons, so I've gotten a lot of things for free!) If you try to only buy what's on sale and what you have coupons for, you can save a TON of money!

Always make a list before you go and buy only what is on it. Buy off brands. Try to buy meat in bulk and then put it in smaller freezer bags when you get home. Sometimes coupons can save you money but sometimes the products are more costly than the off brands. Watch for sales in sales circulars. Never shop when you are hungry.

make a list of what you need and clipping coupons is another good way to save money me and my boyfriend just started using coupons when we go grocery shopping and last week we saved about $20 from using coupons- you can go online and type in grocery coupons and a whole bunch of websites will come up you'll have to sign up but if your trying to save money it's worth it you can click the coupons you want and print them out and shop for deals like if something is on sale EX red barron pizza 2 for 9.95 or watever the deal is you'll be surprised how much you can save

you have great answers below. Dont go grocery shopping when you're hungry look for buy one get one free When you see 3 for 10... you don't have to buy all 3 to get a sale price, so buy just what you need. Use coupons, but only coupons for things you already use... not because you want to try something. Name brands don't always mean best. You'll find that the same company labels the same product with different labels. Some people want the name brand, and some people want the cheaper price. Sometimes it's the very same product! Avoid the sugar aisle. Avoid the individual packaging items, and go for big bags, like rice. And places that make you bag your own items are much cheaper than the ones that will carry them to your car for you.

If you have a club card where you shop that is key. Read the Sunday insert for the grocery store you shop - and see what you use and what is on "sale" coupons are always in the Sunday paper. Don't use them unless you really use the product and or also join a whole sale club (but it's a lot of product for one person)

First is to decide roughly what your needs are. Then visit the supermarkets and buy what's on special that week that fits in with your requirements. The use of generic brands can be also a very good money saver. What you're looking for there is value. Sometimes the cheapest isn't good value because of poor quality. You'll work that out after a while. In the fresh fruit and vegetable area, most times the supermarkets generally aren't the best value and you often do better in the specialist shops. However, do check out the supermarket's specials on these items

Pre-plan menus according to what's on sale. Make a list of everything you'll need. Shop only once a week. Using coupons saves, too. Do not grocery shop when you are hungry or tired. And get out of the store quick. There was a study that the longer a person was in the store, the more they spent. Stretch your budget by having one or two meatless meals a week. Good meals would be beans, pasta. On the "meat" nights, use meat as a flavoring rather than the main part. You don't need much meat for spaghetti. Or you could do rice, pasta or beans with a little chicken or ground beef.
