Slow and painfull. But it works. Buy a note book and pen. Write down the amount of money you have. Write down every thing you spend. At the end of the day. Look at it. Do not buy those items that were a waist of funds. By the end of the year. You will be well on your way to being a tight wad. And saving money. Review it every month and see were and what you could of saved even more on or not spent. You need to learn to do with out.

I'd get rid of that crayola piggy bank and buy one that you have to smash to get inside. Making it hard to access your money forces you to think twice before spending. Another option is to open a kids savings acct at a bank like Wells Fargo. The accounts are usually free for students under 18 but do take a parent co-signer. These accounts can be set up so that you can not take the money out without your parents OK which will also remove the temptation to spend until you are ready. Wells Fargo is perfectly fine with kids making small deposits in change, even if all you are depositing at a time is just a couple of dollars. My kids found it to be a very easy way to save money with out spending it :)
