Savings with the Anglo Irish Bank?

We have Joint bank account but savings account only on husband name! Does it matter?

  • We have joint bank account...our paychecks comes in the same bank. Now we want to open savings account, but interest rate is very low at our current bank so he suggested to open savings account at different bank where interest rate is high. couple days ago, my father-in-law asked my husband "whose name is going to be on the savings account?" my husband said" ofcourse me" .." do you want ur name on it?" father in said ..no i was just asking..i was in the kitchen and overheard this...why didn't he said that its going to be on both of our names since mostly avings will be from my paycheck..i don't like to think like this..but im kinda worried why he wants only his name on it..does it matter? since he will make a transfer from out joint account..plz advise..

    Get tough here. You name goes on the account or you start putting your paycheck in a different account under your name only. You go with him to the new bank and get your name on the account RIGHT NOW or else. Do not stand for this. If he gets in a coma, you can't reach your own savings to pay stuff. Worse if he dies. You make sure you are protected here and no other choice allowed.

Yes it matters. If your husband's name is the only one on the account then he owns the account. He can deny you access and claim all the money is his. If both of your names are on the account then you are co-owners. Depending on the type of account, each of you owns all of it, or each of you own half of it. It sounds like you already don't trust your husband so you should probably just tell him that you want both of your names on the savings account so you can both make deposits and withdraws.
