Are low-calorie alternatives always preferable?

What alternatives are there to banking with a place that always charges you, will not give over-draft pro..?

  • ..tection, or a line of credit? I have been banking with the same institution for about 13 years and they will not offer me over-draft protection or a line of credit. I do not have perfect credit, but since I have been a customer for so long, it seems they could extend themselves that much, at least. (I mean this bank is national, not just local). It is not like I am constantly bouncing checks, etc. LM

  • Answer:

Unfortunately a lot of banks have very similar ways of deciding who they give credit to - that is overdraft, lines of credit, etc. You may go into another bank, and find the same thing. Best to talk to branch manager and ask. Then have the same talk to another branch manager at a similar bank down the street. If you are going to be charged fees and not have a line of credit, you might as well get it somewhere you you like the people you will be dealing with. Good luck!

The best bank to bank with are credit unions. They don't have as many fees as regular banks. Look around for any credit unions available in your area.

Being a national bank may be your problem. Try a local credit union. Credit unions are different and their fees are much lower.
