It sounds like you need something that is harder to access than your savings account. If you do not have tons of money up front you can still start a investment account. I found a company that lets you open an account for less than $100 and this company allows you to make automatic deposits monthly or with each payday. Since this would be an investment account you would not have automatic access to the funds (it would take 2+ days to cash out stocks), it woud mean you can save without having the temptation to use the money. If you want to read about the company I mentioned its name is Sharebuilder: http://www.sharebuilder.com/

Well first is self control... if you don't have it then your not doin so good. Seconed is whats called the latte factor. How much money do you spend on Coffee,pop,candy.... carry a water bottle around and fill it up and water fountains. instead of buying that coffee from starbucks.5 bucks a day times seven days is 35 bucks a week times 4 is 200 bucks a month. that will get you savings goin pretty quick.

My girlfriend's daughter who is 37 now lives with us...she is a lot like you....she moved into "contract" (self-employed nursing) about 2 years ago. Thrilled with her new giant paychecks she went on (yet another) spending spree...makeup, clothing, furniture, "precious moments", teddy bears, toys for her child. I myself am a bit of a maintence drinker/ borderline alchoholic who has spent a lot of time at AA....one thing I can tell you is you have a life-threatening addiction...once all your money is gone and you can no longer borrow from friends or family, you will find yourself homeless and lose all of your "stuff". My suggestion is before every purchase of more than one dollar, stop for a minute and ask yourself a few questions: A do I really need this? B can I afford it? C will this in any way make me healthier or happier? what will I do with it after I'm sick of it, which might be immediately? D could I be doing more good for myself and others in the world if I donated some of what I save to those less fortunate than myself?.....I am here to tell you because I see it all the time....the only way to save is to "not spend"...think about it.

put it in a cd or a savings bond

the best thing i've found so far is a site called www.getrichslowly.org but the following things i'm trying are: a piggy bank i've glued closed and i put all my change into it. last time i did this i saved over a 150 in 4/5 months and used it to open a new bank account. check out sites like www.dealnews.com before i buy any purchase over 40/50$ it helps me to spend less and fight that urge to splurge. if you have debt that can be a very hard obstacle payinh off smaller debts and workign your way up to larger ones while saving an emergcy fund is a good start. look up snowball saving other than that just set a goal for your self or included a friend family member to keep you in track.

put it in a CD for 6 months (you can choose fewer months or more). You can withdraw money from cd before the time is up, but you will get penalized. maybe that knowledge will help you keep your paws out ;)

give it to a friend to put in a piggy bank or somewhere where you can't get a hold of it

Get a Certificate of Deposit (CD.) You deposit money for a fixed amount of time, usually at a higher interest rate. The bank will fine you if you withdraw the money before the time is up so it will deter you from taking money out.

I have two solutions for you.... one is to open a savings account with someone who you trust with your money so that when you want to take money out both of you have to sign for it... and they won't be able to take your money either without your signature. My other solution is to put the money into a CD through the bank.... that way you will have to leave it in there for a period of time and you won't be able to touch it! Hope this helped! Good luck!
