Who sells gold bullion?

I have a Gold Bullion coin ? Help ?

  • I got a Gold Bullion Coin from my grandfather recently. It reads "AMERICAN BULLION" across the top, a little lower it says "U.S. GOLD". Then an outlining picture of an Eagle (I'm assuming) flying , and a little lower it says "AN AMERICAN TRADITION" and then a phone number at the bottom. The other side is the same except it reads "PIECE OF GOLD, PEACE OF MIND" & "A SECURE PLAN FOR THE FUTURE". (I can put up a picture if necessary). So basically, I'm wondering what this coin is worth , if anything, and how could I sell it ? Thanks !

    Coin shops have books on coins for sale. Buy a coin book; look up your coin; you can evaluate your coin's worth yourself without paying for an appraisal. If you take it to a coin shop & ask them, they may make you a low-ball offer. That's what one shop did with my silver dollars. Just get a book on the coins; it will list what it is worth. You want to get a current book, 2011. Gold right now is $1725+ an ounce, remember. That's for a real gold coin. It sounds to me like this American Bullion "coin" that you have is a promotional piece for a company selling gold. You could have it checked out for its real gold content by taking it to a coin shop and asking them if that coin is gold or metal. This coin that you have was not minted by any American government mint. They don't mint coins with that type of "advertising" on them.

Take it to a coin dealer and ask for a valuation. You need to know the weight (quite easy), the purity (not so easy unless it says on it) and then calculate the approximate value (1 Troy ounce is about $1700)
