Craigslist: small debacle...?
-
A lady comes over to check out our furniture. We had advertised the diningroom table for eleven hundred fifty. The lady is pleased with it looks it over for awhile and says she will send husband back tomorrow to pay and pick up the set. The husband arrives around noon with help and says where was it made? I say look on the bottom of diningroom chairs. He CHOOSES not to look in my presence. So then he gives me the cash and proceeds to take the diningroom set to his trailer set up. He takes about a half hour of my time and then comes in and says to me your husband lied this is NOT what was advertised. He says to me, you guys said it was made in England. I said No, the ad said its FROM AN AUCTION IN ENGLAND. How is that a lie? I have no idea where it was made that is WHY I said look at the bottom of the chair. Ok, so I tell him I will give his money back if he hadnt marred of damged the table. Well, come to notice he did scratch it loading it on the edge of table. I told him it looks a lil scratched he says he didnt and walks out. I felt that he should of NOT had loaded up said items unless he was happy with them. He loaded them and PAID for them then chooses to back out. I had no idea how to handle the situation other than say as long as you didnt scratch the items you can have your cash back. I dont think you can trust anyone on craigs list. What hurt the most was to call us liars. Saying a table came from an auction in england is not saying it was MADE there...... Its a beautiful table and very heavy. It sits up to 12 people and has 2 arm chairs. I would like to see what else he finds for that inexpensive. Surely you couldnt walk into american furniture warehouse and find a HEAVY hand carved table that inexpensive. Im sure I will find another buy. Im tempted to have it appraised and do this the right way. Craigslist is just too hard to deal with. for me.

Answer:
Before you sell anything you should know as much as possible about what you are selling. If you did not know where the table and chairs were made, you could have posted in the ad origin unknown or you could have told the person I don't know and then looked yourself for any marking on the chairs or table instead of making the customer look. When you list something, be very specific in your wording. Customers tend to pick and choose what they read. Another thing you could have done was to note in your listing that all sales are final and you could have made that clear also when they came to buy the table and chair set. Just be careful on your wording and be very specific.
