How safe is ebay, like safe is the transaction between you and the person u buy from?

• how safe is the transaction between you and the person u buy from? my mom is so paranoid about giving her card number to ppl. im really angry cuz i wanna buy something on ebay cuz they have such great prices but my mom is all lik i dont lik giving my card number to ppl its not safe, i mean millions of ppl do it, and she thinks it NOT SAFE. plz explain to me how it works and some addition information.

  On ebay, you don't usually give your credit card details to a seller. The most usual route now is through Paypal which is totally secure and the seller doesn't see the credit card details/ You can get a paypal account or pay as a "guest" Generally online, if you checkout with a credit card just always make sure that the URL at the top is https not http (s signifies secure), and that the padlock icon shows a closed padlock not an open one, I've rarely had a bad deal on ebay but buying via paypal or credit card offers some security should the seller send a faulty item or not send it at all. Always try to work with the seller first though - most will try to put it right, especially those with good high feedback.
