How well is the job market?

How is is the current Job market?

• I am software professional working for the same manufacturing company for the last 9 years...! Never actively searched for a job in these years....because I loved my job ! But the economic downturn caused Company to lay off many of its employees, worked for long time.... I may have day or two left before they asked me to go..... I am 41, with 15 yesrs of s/w development experience. I have masters in MBA and I have done Systems Management also after my BS... but I don't know those degrees are just a piece of paper now a days.... If lost your job have depending family and searching for job... please tell me the reality....how hard is the market...! And how long you are searching for a job..?
