What's the best site for funny quotes?

What is a good web site for long-term care insurance quotes?

  • I've been doing some online research on long-term care insurance policies. I hoped that I would be able to find a web site that would provide a number of competitive quotes on the exact policy features I want. I've found several web sites that seem to be designed to harvest a phone number so that a sales agent can call. In other words, the web sites don't ask about the coverage details I want, they ask for my address and phone number. Is there a web site that you can recommend for good competitive quotes? Thanks.

There are no legitimate websites for long term care comparisons. That is because LTC is much more complicated than health or auto insurance. Contact a local agent that works with several different companies. The agent will be able to give you quotes and can explain the policies and will not charge you anything. BTW - $6800 per year for a 59 yo is VERY VERY expensive. That work plan is really gouging their employees. $1500 - $2000 per year is probably average.

Websites are bad. Even if you could get a quote, these policies are so complex you'd have no real idea of what you're paying for. Talk to several locals agents, preferably ones who have been in business a while. You need help from someone who knows what they're doing.

My employer offered this. I went to the website and thought it would be nice to get it for my dad since you could add family members. He is 59 years old. And through work (usually the cheapest) the lowest rate was $6,800 a year. So.... be ready for the shock when you call to get quotes

There aren't any. You'll need to talk to a long term care insurance broker to get rates. Most of them don't bite and an insurance broker can quote the top 3-4 companies for you. If you could quote LTC online, then we'd have it ON our web site.

To my knowledge they will not give you quotes online, because there are many factors involved because it is not like auto or home owners insurance.....more involved. Whatever plan you choose, I would encourage you to ask the agent specifically how much per day they will cover in nursing home care. The plans my parents were looking at would only cover a specific dollar amount...ie $130 per day $150 per day, etc. In 20 years, if the nursing home rate is $1,000 per day (very conservative as some nursing homes today are $300-600+ per day), then we still would not be able to afford the $870 per day, and they would end up needing Medicaid anyway. We decided it would be better for them to save extra money per year, since my parents get a good retirement. We will keep them at home as long as possible. They were are both healthy, so the healthier we are as we age, the less likely we will need nursing home care. Also, I would ask the long term care policy you choose, what safety net you have if they are no longer in business in 30 years, and since nursing homes will be different 30 years from now, how will the insurance company keep up with changes. In 30 years, we will not have 120 bed nursing homes like you see today. Even today, people are going into smaller homes, and some are choosing to remain at home. Some are even sharing homes with other seniors and paying for their caregivers together.
