I have a medical condition diagnosed when not covered under health insurance...?
-
Will insurance companies be able to find out about it? It's not life threatening, but I want to get prescription drugs which is relatively cheap anyways. I was daignosed when I wasn't under any coverage by any insurance companies.

Answer:
Yes. As soon as you start submitting claims for maintenance prescription drugs, they'll start looking into it - and it can flat out void your policy. Best be honest on the application.

If you are going to expect insurance coverage for the prescriptions you had better go back and get the condition re-diagnosed after the insurance is in place, by another physician who will not have records that can be accessed by your health insurance carrier. After your waiting period for preexisting conditions is up you can go back to your old physician if you wish but I would wait at least 2 years to do that. Yes, the insurance company could easily find out, even though I doubt they would check in the case of some minor illness. Should they discover the "fraud" (which is what they would consider it to be) they could cancel coverage altogether and recover any claims paid plus prosecute either civilly or through the State Insurance Dept. (that is the worst case scenario).

I am a little bit confused. Are you stating you are applying for new health insurance? If so on the application it will ask if you have been treated in the last 5 years. It will then ask what doctors you have seen and will ask for the name/address/phone etc. Now if you fail to disclose a condition and subsequently get treatment, they may go into your records of all doctors you have seen and if not reported, could void your policy. Also on this application, you will sign on the bottom stating that you allow the insurance company to access your medical records. Now when you get a prescription, the drug will tell the insurance company of this condition. Do a google search for the name of your drug and see what it pops up. And even it you went to a new doctor for this, the insurance company can call the pharmacy to see what doctor prescribed the drug and then get your records if needed. Unless you get treatment and your RX and pay out of pocket w/out getting the insurance involved, they may not find out, but I would not count on that. You don't state what your condition is, so maybe not a problem, but some will automatically deny you from getting insurance. My suggestion is to call a local agent and ask them if this would be a problem or not. They will know based on your condition and what your state laws provide. good luck

If your afraid they will know then tell him your symptoms and let him diagnose you all over again. My ins company when I called said any drugs on thier formulary which I currently have prescriptions for already, they will cover and have no problem with it at all. You can just show your health card to the pharmacist, ask him to renew your prescriptions, and see what happens, the new doc might want u to come in though before doing that, u wont know till u try to get the pharm to get an auto refil thru the dr. Dependson the med, if its a controlled, u will have to have a visit at the office for it. Its up to you. You are not lying to anyone, if they dont ask if you have for example, diabetes, and you tell the doc how u feel and he tests for it, and then prescribes meds, you didnt lie if he never asks if you have it right? Think honesty, and be keen about it

How do you expect to get prescription medications if you don't tell your doctor your problem. And when you tell him it goes on your record. You could be cancelled by the insurance co. If you want to take a chance and not disclose the information in order to get the policy, go ahead and accept the consequences.

It depends on what the condition is if you have cancer you can't have a lapse of coverage and yes they will find out. If you have something minor like a thyroid problem, they usually don't care.
