My insurance does pay bills only to contractors directly. How can I take care of bills from abroad ?
-
My insurances pays bills only to contractors directly. I assume they do this, to pressure non-contractors to become contractors, so the insurance can save money. I got bills from non-contractors. However, I left the US, and the bills fron non-contractors are still open. My insurance accepts to cover the costs by non-contractors, however they refuse to pay them directly. The insurance want to send the check only to me, but they don't want to send it outside the US. However, I don't have a US address anymore. What should I do ?

Answer:
Without knowing what type of insurance this is, there's no way to answer. If a company -- of any type -- does not do overseas mail, then you need to get a temporary US address and a means of handling finances. You cannot expect everyone to come to you just because you moved. EDIT NOTE: They are not trying to pressure non-contractors into becoming contractors. They have a specific legal relationship with their contractors and make payments to them one way only. You hired the non-contractor so the insurance company's responsibility is to pay you. Someone else suggested having them send the check to a friend in the US. That might work. However, in order for a friend to cash the check they will need a limited power of attorney. They will either need to pay the bill for you, or you will need to open an account for the friend to deposit the check into. No matter which route you choose, this is going to be awkward to resolve and it will need to be resolved in the US.

Give them the address of someone you know and trust who is in the U.S. Have them send the check with your name to that address. Have the person at that address send you the check or have that person put the money in your bank account.
