Can you get Medicaid if you have a full time job?

If I have Aetna insurance through my job can my baby get medicaid still?

  • If I have Aetna insurance through my job can my baby get medicaid still? I have Aetna through my job and I am pregnant. After I have the baby do I have to out the baby on my insurance or is it possible to get a Medicaid HMO? They dont pay for maternity leave and adding someone is more expensive. I was wondering if I can just put the baby on A medicaid hmo in the mean time just for shots and check ups. Category

  • Answer:

It is not a simple process to put someone on medicaid. It is even more difficult to use it. Once you have the baby in a medicaid HMO, you have to use the doctors who are in that HMO. There are very few, and it is difficult to get appointments with them, and there are long waits when you do get there, even with an appointment. You will miss a lot of work taking the baby to the medicaid HMO doctor. It would be better to put the baby on the insurance from work. It may cost a lot, but it costs less than losing your job costs.

I hope not. You already have insurance. No need for taxpayers to pay for your irresponsibility.

Maybe. It's going to depend on your income and assets, and babydaddy's income, and what state you live in. Some states, Medicaid pays the extra, to get baby covered on your plan.

If you put your baby on medicaid, the father will have to be put on child support. It might be cheaper just to have him help you with the premium payment for your insurance. With my private insurance, I can get my child into the pediatrician that day if I have to. I don't think Medicaid patients who pay no copay get that flexibility. When you pay a copay upfront, you get more flexibility because they know they will get immediate payment from you.

I'm with Stephen on this on. I don't think you're looking at the whole picture. How much extra will adding the baby cost? Will it really be more than your lost wages when you have to sit at the Medicaid Dr waiting room all day for checkups, etc? And babies NEVER need just checkups. There are ear infections and viruses and you-name-it. Parents of young children miss a lot of work and see the pediatrician a lot. Stay independent and don't get sucked into government handouts. They're not easy and to stay qualified you have to keep yourself poor. You'll never get out of the hole if you take that route.
