Is a volcano an act of God? How can insurance companies prove God is to blame for natural disasters?
-
The volcanic ash spewed out from the eruption on Iceland has resulted in thousands of flights in the U.K. and northern Europe being cancelled. Some people will not be able to claim for financial loss because insurance companies are using the "act of God" get-out clause. Is there a legal precedent where an atheist/scientist/geologist has successfully challenged an insurance company on the basis that volcano's, earthquakes etc., are acts of nature rather than acts of God? Should the insurance companies not be made to prove (a) that God exists, (b) which God they mean and (c) provide evidence that God was to blame. Perhaps insurance companies should be made to change the wording to "an act of nature" to be (a) politically correct and stop offending atheists and (b) theologically correct and stop offending Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc., etc.

Yes, that and remove the phrase "under god" that was added to the Pledge of Allegiance back in 1954 to show that the Communists were immoral.

"Act of God" is not an insurance term. Although I've mostly only written policies in the USA, I've never SEEN a policy that uses the phrase "act of God". So whenever I hear "insurance companies try to use the act of God clause to get out of paying", it's a lie. It's a myth. Because there IS no "act of God" clause in an insurance policy. Volcanic eruption, and volcanic action, are two different perils in a policy. They are either listed as covered perils, or listed as excluded perils. Cut and dried. Is it covered, or is it excluded. THAT is how the wording is changed. Your offense, is based on a lie. No need to be offended.

In legal documents, a natural disaster is referred to as a natural disaster, usually specifically referring to the type of disaster, eg flood. I have a feeling this 'act of God' thing has as much basis in reality as the swearing on the Bible thing, and only really happens in TV/Film.

If its an act of God, and im not a believer in God, why does he feel the need to set off the volcano in the first place? Act of nature sounds much better to me.

Oy!!!! Act of God, act of naturel, WTF does it matter in either situation they are conditions out of the anyones control. No one PERSON (Not deity or nature) is responsible for said incident. Act of God refers to natural disasters (i.e hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes) Monotheists and Polythiest believe a God or multiple controls those things, just because you don't agree with that assumption changes nothing. This argument isn't about whether or not it is an act of nature or an act of God because both parties agree it is an act of nature. This argument is about whether you believe a God is controlling it(nature). Your argument is moot. Stop using religion or lack thereof as reason to constantly complain and develop unecessary arguments.
