I live in California. 1. - Here in CA small business are required to pay 50 % of the employee premium (zero for dependents) - or if you are a independent contractor (1099) or without a job, you get indivdual insurance ... however, there are medical questions and if you are even slightly unhealthly you will get declined. - if you are low income you get free insurance thru county ... and hard working people pay that cost in taxes 2. most people who have a decent job get good benefits (i.e. health insurance) ... let's say you are an artist, or waiter only working PT while going to school, so you don't work enough hours to get on the group (employer sponsered plan) ... then you have to try for an indivdual plan, and hope you are 100% healthy. 3. thru a good job with benefits its guaranteed issue (no medical questions) ... and individual plan (here in the state of California) is medically underwritten ... meaning depending on how you answer 20+ medical questions will determine if you are eligible. 4. This is a tuffy ... there are pros and cons .. look at medicare that's a government sponsered program and it's working ... others fear that the quality of care would go down (and it probably would) ... so then we would have the wealthy people who can afford private health plans, and middle america (those who make 40k-80k a year) left with sub-standard service 6. health insurance is something you pay for ... like auto insurance, and life insurance ... health care program ... would be something like medicare that is sponsered by the state. OMgosh ... i could answer all of these but it's soooo much to type. maybe I'll come back tomorrow ... BTW: I'm an office manager for an insurance brokerage ... I'v also worked on the carrier side (at Blue Shield). Good Luck on report.

For half of insured people, the Medicare and Medicaid set, the Taxpayer pays for their health insurance. Most of the others have it through their job, where the employer usually pays half, and the employee (taxpayer) pays the other half. Self employed people pay for their own, all by themselves. There are more than a few people in the USA. 85% of the ones here legally, have health insurance. You get health insurance, just like car insurance - by buying it, or applying for it. No. Every country that has national health insurance, has private health insurance, too - and the "free" people die of heart attacks in waiting rooms, and wait six months for their open heart surgery. Heck, one YA person said that in their province in Canada, the wait for a regular physical, was SEVEN YEARS. Health insurance, means a third party that helps PAY for your medical care. Health care program means, the system in place to provide you with care - doctors and hospitals. The first is about the money. The second is about the services rendered. I have no idea what #7 means. What makes ANYTHING political, is politicians promising free stuff to people. People vote for whoever gives them the most "free stuff". It's why the roman empire collapsed. What makes health insurance an issue, is largely media based. People disagree about EVERY issue, including health insurance.

1. Employers and Individuals 2. Most people have it. Those with low income...or low sense don't 3. Buy it. 4. No way...we'll leave that to the Socialist countries and their outrageous taxes. 5. It pays for a portion of the medical bills (in a nutshell) 6. If a health care program is a discount plan then they are night and day different. 7. That question is not clear. 8. One side wants to push the country to Socialism and drive up taxes. The other side realizes the damage that would do long term to economic growth and feels as thought those that can provide for themselves should. 9. See 8 above 10. Why do they disagree about anything? For the most part nobody realizes that American healthcare is superior to other countries AND at the same time it's cheaper. Swedish companies pay a 30% employer tax and Swedish people pay a 25% sales tax. So imagine paying 25% more for everything while you take home 30% less pay. The problem is, while the system isn't perfect it only needs to be corrected and not revamped. The biggest issue is due to law suits and lack of tort reform our doctors are forced to pay outlandish prices (usually 6 figure prices depending on the specialty) for liability coverage if they make a mistake. In turn they must charge more and therefore it's a vicious cycle going 'round and 'round of additional costs. Educating the American consumer and ending the availability of discount (non-insurance) plans would help as well. Health insurance isn't nearly as expensive as when you need it and don't have it.
