Will my dad's Blue Cross Blue Shiels insurance cover braces for me?
-
My dad recently added me to his Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. If I were to get braces, would his insurance cover that?
-
Answer:
Ask your dad. Is this even dental insurance? Even if it is, many dental plans exclude or severly limit orthodontics benefits.

We do not know his plan. If he has dental coverage, there may be a limited benefit, but he needs to read his plan literature, ask the insurance company, h r department, or benefit rep to be sure.
You dont understand what people are telling you. Every insurance company has different plans for dental benefits and we dont know what his plan covers, how much is covered, whether braces are included, if there is a waiting period, and so on, the only way is for him to call the plan administrator or look in their policy and read the coverage.

If it did cover orthodontics, and you met all of the requirements for that coverage (which may be different from the requirements simply to be on the policy), then it would cover traditional, metal braces. It probably would not cover Invisalign or other more cosmetically appealing options.

Health insurance doesn't cover braces. IF he has dental, it may or may not cover orthodontics. IF it covers orthodontics, the way it usually pays, is 50% of the cost, up to $1,000, $1500, or $2000. Obviously, or maybe not, that leaves YOU paying more than half the cost of the braces yourself.

He needs to have a dental plan. Being the adult, he would need to call & talk to someone if he doesn't understand his policy. Braces are not medical, but dental. Many plans cover braces to some extent

Does he have dental? Dental and health are separate? And, even if he has dental it doesn't mean that orthodontics are covered. Get the card, flip it over, call the customer service number and ask.

you have to call the # on the back of his insurance card and ask them yourself. just because he has dental coverage doesn't mean orthodontics are covered.
Because I Said So
Braces are considered cosmetic and are not covered by insurance.
