Who applies in car insurance, the owner or the driver?

If i have my dad listed as a co-owner of my car, can i be on his insurance plan and just listed as the driver?

  • i am 20 years old, am currently driving a car in my dad's name but am buying a new one but would still like to be on his plan. if i list him as a co-owner of my new car can i continue to be on his plan?

  • Answer:

Yeah I did the same thing so it's best to do it that way. Plus since me and you are the same age and if you just had yourself it then you would be paying an arm and both legs for it. It would skyrocke! So keep him on it since he's older and you won't have to pay as much.

Yes, especially if you live at the same address.

Well, if someone sues you as owner of the car, do you want to be covered? If you're not listed as NAMED INSURED on the policy, your policy won't cover you as OWNER of the car. Plus, that means if your dad gets sued for something, that car is one of his assets, and can be attached. Heaven forbid he dies, and his will leaves all his assets to his girlfriend - she now owns half your car. It's probably a bad idea. AND, it's not going to save you money, anyway.
