Skydiving Recommendations?

If skydiving is safe, then why are insurance rates higher for skydivers?

• Hey guys, I have been skydiving twice and plan on going again. Through adequate research, I agree with the notion that if you go skydiving, it will be one of the safest things you do all day. There is just a misconception that skydiving has a high fatality rate, but when looking at actual skydiving death statistics, it's plain that it is a very safe task indeed (especially compared to daily tasks such as driving). My question then is, since upgrades in equipment and safety regulations have virtually eliminated the risk of skydiving, why do insurance companies insist on charging more on those who skydive? (When mathematically, the increase in price is unjustified due to it being improportionally high relative to the very small gain in risk)

  Because there are no 'partial losses'. If skydiving is so safe, why do you need insurance to cover you skydiving? Seems like it's too risky for you to "self insure", but you're objecting to the insurance company objecting to insure it . . . kinda hypocritical!!
