How can I know that I have received money with Western Union?

Do you know how to claim work done/money received when filing a claim for California Unemployment Insurance?

  • I got laid off 3 weeks ago and filed a claim for UI. I've tried for three days to call the 800 number and I've read through the EDD web site material. I've just received my final paychecks and will receive an unused vacation payout this week or next. Even though I haven't worked at all during the time I'm claiming for, since I received my checks during a week of the time of my claim, should I just not file for UI until I've received all of my final paychecks? I will have a week where I did not receive any money, but I'm afraid their automated system will cancel my claim because money came in a couple of different weeks over the last 3 weeks. Also, does anyone know for sure if you work temporarily for three weeks and get dropped from UI, if there is any reason they won't open your claim again after that work? As I understand it, if you find temporary work and get cancelled from UI more than 3 months after your old job, your new UI payments will be based on the quarter when you were out of work, hence, dropping your payment drastically. Anyone know for sure? Is there any motivation or only penalties for seeking and securing part-time work?

  • Answer:

    1. You should file during the first week for which you are not paid. Not the first week during which you are not paid. The first week for which you are not paid. If you are paid only (a) for work done in a prior week, (b) accrued, unused vacation pay, or (c) a combination of these, AND are not paid for any work done in the current week AND will not be paid (in the future) for any work done in the current week, then file. UI goes by the week when the money was earned, not by the week when the money was paid. They are aware that there may be a lag time between earning money and receiving it. They may ask questions, but will not automatically cancel benefits. 2. If the work is only part time, then you can continue to claim UI benefits. On each claim form, you must report whether you worked and how much you made. Your benefit may be reduced or eliminated for those weeks only, but your claim will not be canceled and you might even receive a partial benefit for the weeks when you work part time. If you quit the part-time work without a good reason or are fired for misconduct, then you may lose your eligibility for benefits entirely. If you are laid off from the part-time job, then you resume collecting benefits at the original weekly benefit rate until either a year after you originally filed or until you exhaust your benefits.
