DL reinstatement fee, Should I wait till the insurance company sends proof of insurance?

• Our insurance was canceled without my knowlege, I wasn't happy about it to say the least and it was for a stupid reason, they have now rewritten my policy but anyways. My husband has to have an SR-22 filed for a year and of course in November it would have been a year so now we have to do it again for another year. I think they just play games to get more money out of you. Anyways, I have to pay an reinstatement fee and the insurance company said it takes 48-72 hours to send to the Drivers Licence place. Should I go ahead and pay the fee before proof of insurance goes through? Or will they only take it when proof of insurance goes through. I certainly don't want to do this twice and be out $200 instead of $100. My husband has told me they have paid it before and they had to pay it again because of something similar.

  What does that mean, "without your knowledge"? They have to send you a letter to tell you that they're going to cancel you. If you kept your address current, you would have gotten the letter. If you pay in full, or sign up for EFT payment, you won't have that problem - as long as there's money in your account to pay the bill. 99% of the time, people who cancel for nonpayment of premium, tell the agent "I never got the bill!". First, you wait until the proof goes through. THEN, you pay the reinstatement fee. Meanwhile, his license automatically gets suspended . . . so he probably needs to check with the DMV to see if there's an automatic time period before his license can be reinstated, so he doesn't get pulled over driving on a suspended license.
