Who has the best deal on basic roadside assistance insurance?

Roadside assistance (towing service) & insurance?

  • Just a few days ago, I called my insurance company directly and requested to tow my car to an auto shop for repair. It was towed, and insurance company cover the towing fee. Today, my car broke down for the same reason, and I called auto shop to tow my car. Can I ask my insurance company to reimburse the towing cost? It is about $80, the bill has not been come out yet. Shall I let insurance company know the second towing service? I have my car towed twice in less than 10 days, will it affect my future insurance quote? Thanks.

  • Answer:

Sure you can. Usually they'll reimburse towing up to the coverage limit - usually $25 or $50, usually up to three times during the policy year. But if you file all three of those claims, they'll drop towing from your policy when it renews.

What a tangled question? First thing your insurance paid to tow the car and the car got to the shop. Now you think you should be given back the first tow money back because the shop did not fix the car properly? The repair shop should pay to get the car back ask them what the warranty on the repair was, or did they not find anything wrong? Perhaps you need to take the car to the dealership. Good Luck

Some insurance company tow plans to not pay for a second tow for the same reason within a particular length of time. (It's a little motivation to get the car fixed.) Others won't care. You'll have to call them and ask. I agree that if the shop didn't fix it you should ask them to cover the tow cost. Will they? Probably not. Towing claims do NOT impact your insurance rates. But if you have too many tows, they may drop the towing coverage from the policy.

Yes you should call the insurance company, and they might pay for the tow of the car. You probably should have called them before the towing, but it's worth a shot. Should not affect future premiums. That said, the garage should cover the cost of the tow if they "fixed" the problem the first time!
