my mum took out home contents insurance 1 week ago and accidental damage her washing machine has broken dow she is 78 and depends on her washing machine ,can she make a claim now or does she have to wait a certain time ,she is unsure thank you ,

Answer:
The Insurance Company will be suspicious she took out the insurance knowing the machine had broken down. The Insurance Co. may want to send an assessor to look at it or may just accept the claim. All she can do is claim and see what they say! Be prepared for some searching questions though, it would be probably be better for you to ring on her behalf!

I doubt if it will be covered. I tried to claim for my broken Fridge Freezer and was told break downs are not covered. UK

The key questions will be how did it get accidental damages? Did the machine break down because it is old and needed repaired? Is there water damage to the floors due to this accident? Can she prove that this happened AFTER she bought the insurance. If they find that this is a maintenance issue, will not be covered. Did she have an agent when she bought the policy? If so, call them and pose the question. She may also have a deductible that maybe more than the washing machine is worth. Why not call a repair guy to see if this washing machine can be fixed. good luck

You cannot clim in the first week. Aside from the exclusion period issue, the provider will obviously be very suspicious. But first you need to find out exactly what your insurance actually covers anyway. Some cheap insurance covers only burglary situations

If the machine has broken down then not many home insurances cover this. You normally need separate insurance cover. Insurances start from the day you insured it from, usually only pet insurance has a lead up time.

Insurance for accidental damage is exactly that ----- insurance for damage caused BY an accident Something breaking down aint an accident. - its normal wear and tear

The washing machine breaking down is not covered by a home contents policy, it is considered wear and tear. Allow me to provide an example; if your washing machine caught fire and caused your whole house to burn down, your policy would replace everything except for the washing machine, as that was a product defect or a failure to properly maintain the item. If the washing machine just breaks down, there is no coverage. Your mother's age is completely irrelevant. I understand that you want us to feel bad for her, and I do. However, her age has nothing to do with the situation.

no and I might just add even if it were a genuine claim for something in her home you can bet the company would try to wriggle out of paying, all insurance is a con.if it were not perhaps libellous I would go as far as to say all insurance companies are thieves, we pay our monthly subscriptions then try to claim and 90% of companies will find a reason not to pay out
