What is the best homeowners insurance?

Best homeowners insurance for the price?

  • Alright. Have homeowners insurance right now, but they just dropped flood coverage and raised our wind/hail deductible to $2500. So I'm shopping around. Most places it looks like you have to call, which I hate talking to them because I don't understand any of this insurance stuff. Anyways... just looking around to see if anyone has any recommendations... any companies that are nice to do business with and/or have great prices but also good coverage. thanks a lot.

  • Answer:

Homeowners insurance policies have NEVER EVER EVER covered "flood", so you are quite mistaken about that. Having said that, State Farm has stopped writing the NFIP Write Your Own policies, which is a separate policy, and are drastically increasing wind deductibles in certain areas. What's available, is going to matter a way, way way lot where you are. Pretty slim pickings in FL or LA, where I suspect you probably live. But there's no "one size fits all" cheapest company. Some companies are cheaper for houses around $150,000 that are less than 10 years old, and different companies will be cheapest for $300,000 houses around 25 years old. And still another company is better for city houses, or a fourth, for someone rural. There's no shortcut - you'll have to shop around. But you can minimize the shopping, by using a local independent agent, who can quote you out with ten or more companies, all at the same time.

Well lets start at the beginning. No insurance company in the USA offers flood insurance independently and you will never just be dropped as it is a federally sponsored insurance policy. So I don’t know who gave you the information you got on the flood end of things but I feel there is more to it then you were informed. As far as good companies to research huntsman is correct GEICO has good prices as do Allstate, State Farm, Liberty Mutual and other smaller local style companies in your area I am sure. I would start by calling a couple of the larger companies and also a local broker this way you will only make about three calls and you will have a solid spread of prices to compare. Good Luck.

I use Geico since I have my cars insured with them and I save a bit by combining. They use a company called Travelers I've called Travelers on my own, and they can't offer me the price geico does
