What is easy money policy also known as?

My insurance company are trying to charge me money for a policy they cancelled can they do this?

  • Hello, I took at a policy with a bike insurance company for an imported bike that i got from ebay. The policy was third party only and issued to me without a CBT and on the basis i had the bike registered within 7 days. i explained that i would book the bike in for a test so it will be longer than seven days which was not a problem to them. Booked the bike in unfortunately it was unable to be booked in for some time later (months). About a week and a half before the bike was due to be tested i received a cancellation letter saying i will no longer be insured within the next seven days, i rang the company and said look the bikes been booked in for the test for ages it is going in like 9 days or something "can you not extend the policy till that day?" the adviser refused. so the policy was cancelled. The issue is not the bike or the insurance but the £66.41 they are trying to charge me for cancelling the policy. Is this right? surely they cancelled my policy i did not ask them to, also the bike was stored in shed it was 3rd party insurance only so if it got nicked i couldn't claim, I did not have a CBT which they were fully aware of so i could not ride it, and the bike was not registered so again it was not road legal so silly enough i paid for around six months insurance for Absolutely nothing ( how was i to know that the testing station would not be able to test it later, its a specialist station not just an MOT the test is an MS VA or summat irrelevant really) but because i had paid a deposit i did not want to cancel. Can someone please give me some advice is there a loop hole should i contact the ombudsman or CAB im a student and i really cant afford to pay £66

  • Answer:

Unfortunately not. You aren't being charged for cancelling the policy - you are being charged for the time the policy was in force. It was up to you to suspend or cancel the insurance if you didn't want it pending the bike being tested.

Unfortunately for you, they are correct. You are charged for the time you were insured. They cannot help where you had the bike stored or if it was licensed or not. They had stipulations laid out as to what and how they would insure the bike and you agreed to the terms. Since you were not able to get the bike registered in the time they said, they have every right to cancel and charge you for the time you had the bike covered.
