Having conjunctivitis that look like allergic conjunctivitis?

Is treatment to Conjunctivitis consider to be optical expenses in the medical insurance?

  • My eyes get infected several days before and the doctor said it is conjunctivitis. I am going to claim the reimbursement of the diagnosis to my insurance company. I read my insurance policy, saying that optical expenses are not covered in the insurance plan. However, I thought conjunctivitis is infection of eye, which is a disease/illness but not a common visual problem such as nearsightedness. So I wondered whether the eye disease is insured or not. Does anyone know whether the payment on conjunctivitis can be reimbursed?

  • Answer:

Conjunctivitis is considered a medical condition, it's nothing to do with the vision or the eye itself, but an infection that occurs around the eye. Cataracts are also medical, although they are on or within the eye, cataracts stem from medical illness and are considered as medical in nature. You should attempt to submit that claim to the medical insurance.

No. Optical expenses means things like eyeglasses, contact lenses, Lasik, etc. Treatment for eye infections and eye injuries is usually covered by insurance.

No, it's medical. It should be covered, as long as you don't have any preexisting exclusions or big fat deductibles.

Tricia

It is not under "vision" or optical. It's medical.
