How would a gold and opal necklace have been crafted?

How to unstretch a gold necklace that's been stretched?

  • Soo my boyfriend bought me this beautiful gold necklace for christmas, and knowing me i would find SOME way to ruin it. so i was changing yesterday and the necklace got caught around my turtleneck and stretched a good 2 inches! I called the jewllers back to see if i could get a warranty on it since it was bought less than 30 days ago, but they denied me that because "It was my fault it stretched" but come on! So anyways, im going to the jewllers tonight to see what they can do, and they said they would see if they could shorten it, but i'm thinking the gold is to brittle now and will break very easily if you have any ways of shrinking gold necklaces back to their original size, PLEASE TELL MEEEE!!!!

  • Answer:

It stretched two inches by getting caught on your SHIRT? Not to be rude, but that must be a thin chain. I've heard of a chain getting stretched (or broken), but normally it's because someone was in a fight or something. I don't think there's much they can do, other than remove the stretched links. And, yes, that would be a good idea, since they'll be more malleable than they were EVEN BEFORE you damaged them! Of course, gold has value; so you could sell that chain for the metal's value & buy a different one. One last thing: chances are that same company would have denied you even if you had the warranty. Good luck!
