  • Hello, I am an indie film producer and have been looking for locations. I have found one but realised I need (for everybody) Public liability insurance. Firstly, what EXACTLY is this? And also, can it be obtained for a single day? Or a set period of time ie 6 weeks? And how much does it cost? Finally, what is the minimum age that you can obtain the insurance? And what does it cover? Thanks! 10 Points!

Public liability insurance is designed to protect third parties such as visitors, passers-by, workers that aren't employed by you, etc etc. Having PL insurance means that they are protected in the event of injury or damage to their property. If you hold PL insurance they can claim against that insurance. The risks don't depend on the fact that you are using fake weapons! Risks are greatly increased if you are working with or in close proximity to the general public. IE: one of the actors trips and knocks over a member of the audience. The insurer will determine the level of risk based on questions that you answer. Don't lie - that means that the policy could be declared void. Yes you can get "events insurance" from many of the major insurers. Simply ring around and get some quotes.
