Have you ever had to appeal state disability insurance in CA?

Has anyone on here ever been denied State Disability Insurance (California)?

• I applied for it after I was laid off. First I applied for Unemployment, then State Disability. On top of this, I applied for both at the same time, because State Disability gave me disability retroactively to the time I was on Unemployment. I know you can't collect both, so I'm worried what is going to happen. I didn't do it to fraud the system. I have a phone interview with Unemployment next week. On top of this, I wonder if you can collect State Disability after being laid off. I'm not talking Short Term Disability or Social Security. I live in CA, by the way. Have you ever been denied State Disability Insurance? if so, why? What do you think of my situation? Thanks.

  Well, sure people have been denied!! But you can't be BOTH able to work, and collect unemployment, AND unable to work, and collect disability. They will eventually cross check, find out you lied to SOMEONE, and odds are, BOTH benefits will be cancelled, and you'll be required to pay them both back. It doesn't matter WHAT your reason was, in committing fraud - it's still fraud. With private disability insurance, you cannot collect, AFTER you've been laid off, however, California historically has been much more generous, and DOES allow people to collect short term disability coverage after they've been laid off. I've never applied for disability, so I've never been denied.
