How long should it take to get my claims check from state farm? For home PC damage?

• I have State farm homeowners insurance. We had a bad electrical storm that fried my computer and monitor. I use this PC to run my business. Im an electrician. Imade the claim on july 20 2008 and had an estimate done on the 21st. I then gave state farm the estimate and they said it could take weeks maybe even months before i get the money. I was told that it is covered but takes forever. I use this pc to run my business such as invoices etc etc. WHAT DO I DO AND WHAT ARE THE LAWS??/ THANKS

  OK, State Farm writes your BUSINESS policy that covers the PC? Because the HOMEOWNERS policy has severe limitations for stuff you use during the course of your business. Additionally, the standard homeowners policy has exclusions for tubes, transistors, that kind of stuff, that can blow out when hit by lightening. SO. The governing law, is contract law. So you have to look at your policy, to see 1. if there is coverage 2. if the coverage is very limited, because it's business stuff (usually limited to $250). There's no law that says a company has to pay within XYZ days. Also, you can always ask your agent, if they can expedite things. Bottom line - if this is a homeowners policy, and your ONLY damages are to business equipment, likely the damages payable (the $250) will be under your deductible and you won't get any money at all. If this is a BUSINESS policy, what's covered will depend on the type of form and endorsements - and you'll have to ask your agent for help. Meanwhile, you have to just get on with your business, so go buy that replacement computer. And be sure it's insured properly, for BUSINESS use.
