Health insurance (MA) Question about jobs/income?
-
I have Health insurance through MA (medical assistance) in minnesota Im 20 years old and a female. When I first signed up (a year ago) I had one job, now I have two jobs but my insurance still only knows about the one job. (main job) my second job I work at maybe 3 times a month and make very little, now Im worried I'm going to go to jail for lying about this other job. Is there anyway they can see if I have this job? (I work at a movie theater) Could I be fined or go to jail for something like this? I heard you can get 5 years in jail for lying, Im kinda freaking out.. What do I do? If i tell my insurance company now they will see my pay stubs and see how long ive been working there so I cant even tell them. I just want to know if they can find out and if I will go to jail.. Thanks if you can help me...

Answer:
You won't go to jail. Yes, they'll find out. They'll run your SSN through the system. What they'll do, is attach your wages, until they get paid back everything they paid on your behalf, and bar you from getting welfare in the state again.

The insurance company will not see it. The government that provides the assistance will see it, because all income from jobs in movie theaters (and most other places) is reported to the government for various reason unrelated to your question (such as taxation). The government may cross-check the records of income against what is reported when applying for assistance, and it can find out that there is income that you did not report.

If it is visible, you get a W-2 or a 1099 at the end of the year, they will eventually see it. They need to graduate these benefits, instead of pandering strictly to the low class. I sympathize with your situation. Justice is not served. There need to be govt incentives for people to work and improve their situation. Not govt rewards for refusing to work and sinking into the gutter. Governments should reward citizens for good behavior - like when people want to work and take a second job and better themselves. Employers want people who want to work and people should want to work. These kinds of government policies interfere with that. Our governments are partly responsible for our modern societal problems. So far, they certainly are not the solution. I commend you for wanting to get more work and better yourself. Government should not penalize you and other hard workers. It's upside down nowadays.
