What online school is best to get your life insurance from?

What could I do to get myself covered for health insurance if my father's insurance company cut me off ?

  • I'm about to be cut off from my father's health insurance because I'm currently not in school. I graduated from high school in June 2009 and was supposed to start college in August 2009 but i was so tired of school from high school so i took a break and decided to start in the Spring Semester 2010. I got enrolled for classes for Spring 2010 Semester and I dropped my classes at last minute because of my low math skills and because i was planning to retake the entrance test because if i didn't retake it i would have to take a bunch of math classes that would waste my time. I want to graduate soon from a 2 year college not graduate in 4 or 5 years. I also have bi polar disorder so I feel lazy and I don't want to do anything but sit on my computer at home watching videos. My parents say that my hard drive is going to crash but i don't believe that because i have anti virus. What could I do to get health insurance if they cut me off ?? I have a severe case of asthma so if i don't get covered and taken care of my life could be at risk. I hope president Obama's health plan gets approved so i can get covered too. Could I do anything to get health insurance coverage if they cut me off ?? Can anyone please help me out ??

  • Answer:

Your most inexpensive option would be to get group insurance through an employer. If you don't plan on working then you will have to go with private insurance, but based on medical information, they can pretty much charge what they want. Whatever you do, do not allow your insurance to lapse for more than 63 days. If you do, even group insurance through an employer can hold any pre-existing conditions against you and not pay claims on them for up to 18 months. Without that lapse group insurance cannot do that. I hope you find something affordable for you quickly.

You can take Cobra coverage, and continue the plan at your own cost, for up to 18 more months. With a diagnosis of bipolar, no private company is going to give you private insurance. Don't hang your hat on Obama's plan, even if it DOES pass, it's not supposed to go into effect until 2013.

If your bipolar disorder is severe enough that you cannot work, then apply for disability insurance and medicaid. If your bipolar disorder is not that bad, then get a job from somewhere that provides health insurance to employees.

I would go to your local "health and human services" and tell them what happened, it might take a little while but im sure they will help you out! they're REALLY good at places like that! Good luck hun!

I have sympathy for you only cause I have suffered from both bipolar disorder and depression. Normally I would just tell someone like you to stop being lazy, Why don't you start working until you go back to school? As it seems you really dont want to go. There are many post-high school career options where you could gain your own health insurance while making your own money. Sometimes, schools also offer low cost health options to thier students. Start taking classes right away and avoid the math ones until you can talk to an advisor about re-taking the exam. Do some research on your county's board of health website to see if they offer any low-cost mental health services. Or maybe your state has a charity care fund like mine. Good luck.

KLD it.

Hi Marcus, I am an independent health insurance agent. Depending on the state you are in and the company your father works for you may be able to stay on his group plan until age 25 regardless of your student status. When the economy tanked, many states decided to allow children to stay on their parent's health insurance plan until they are 25 regardless of whether or not you are a student. I would check into that because unfortunately you would be an automatic decline with any reputable health insurance company due to the Bipolar Disorder. If your state does not allow you to stay on your parent's plan you will need to find a job that offers group coverage otherwise you will be uninsured. Good luck to you. Onesourcebenefits.com
