How are coupons used?

When calculating expenses for my Flexible Spening Account, how do I factor in coupons I used?

  • For example, I bought tylenol for $8.00 but I had a $2.00 coupon. Can I claim it for $8.00 or $6.00?

  • Answer:

Usually you fax in a copy of the receipt for the transaction with the price circled, if you circle $8.00 most likely that is what they will pay you. If they catch that you only paid $6.00 they will make the adjustment and pay you $6.00. FYI a lot of stores are now placing a total at the bottom of the receipt for eligible expenses.

Other answers

Your receipt is going to show the actual cost (after the discount) that is the amount you would charge to your FSA account.

$6. You can only claim for what you SPENT. Not the "list price" of the medication.
