What are some of the reasons health insurance companies won't pay to save your life?
-
I'm just curious. Like if you have lung cancer do to excess smoking(just an example), will the health insurance companies leave him to die because of his lack of income and his bad health? Please answer this and the above question as best as you can because I think this world is cruel!

Answer:
1. You didn't buy any coverage. 2. You bought a discount plan, that doesn't "pay" anything out. 3. You bought a limited benefit plan, and you maxed out your coverage. Newsflash - health insurance companies don't provide ANY medical treatment. DOCTORS, however, and HOSPITALS, might very well leave someone to die, because of his lack of income and bad health. Until YOU, take out a half a million in student loans, work your butt off 80 hours a week in school, through college, med school, residency, etc, to become a doctor, AND THEN volunteer at LEAST 20 hours a week giving FREE MEDICAL CARE to people with no income and bad health, then YOU ARE THE CAUSE. You're contributing to cruelty, because YOU aren't trying to fix anything! You're not trying to HELP anyone! You're only demanding someone ELSE to help that poor guy. Sheesh, put down the remote, and get out there and DO something about the cruel world!! Or, stop whining about it.

The only thing they would be unlikely to pay for are medical procedures that aren't generally accepted as effective by the medical community.

I'm not sure where you get ideas like this. All insurance companies will pay for cancer treatment as long as you have the right policy. It doesn't matter if it is a result of smoking or not. If you don't have the right policy that is the same as blaming cell phone companies for not saving your life (in other words it makes no sense). The problem is people want to have someone else pay for everything. If you don't have coverage because of lack of income there is welfare to cover you. Yes, life is cruel. You have to learn to deal with it.

The only reasons they may deny would be if the treatment is not covered on the policy, or the person has MAXED out their limits, or the treatment is considered "experimental" and not standard treatment for this cancer. But you are confusing health insurance with someone who is uninsured. If you have no insurance and have no money, no doctor or hospital has to treat you, unless you pay them, period. You can go to the ER and they must treat you and bill you, but that is only for emergency, and if ongoing treatment is needed, then they will refer you to a specialist or oncology center, but once again, if no funds, then they do not have to treat you, even if dying.

You are mistaking health insurance for health care. If you have lung cancer you would visit a doctor for treatment, not an insurance company. If your insurance policy covers your treatment then the insurer will pay the doctor's bill. But will the doctor treat you if the insurer doesn't pay? That's the real question since it is the doctor's actions or inactions that ultimately has an impact on your health.

An insurance policy is a legal contract between the insured and the insurer. It states that in exchange for X dollars, they will pay for X,Y & Z. No more. No less. As to the cruelty comment, back in the day NO ONE had insurance. If you couldn't pay your doctor, you didn't get care. Period. In that light, even a policy that doesn't cover everything is a far kinder system.

American health insurance companies are in business for profit. nothing to do with the health of people.
