How long does it take to get a settlement check?

I was in a lawsuit with the shool district for the past two years, and about a month ago they finally settled for 27K. My lawyer is getting 33% so that leaves me with about 18K. Now I am still waiting for the settlement and my Lawyer says that there is a delay on the districts side. Does anyone know how long these things generally take to get distributed? I live in California btw.
