What does an epidural cost without insurance?

How much does an emergency room visit cost with and without insurance?

  • I had to go to the emergency room at 8 weeks pregnant because I had become dehydrated from vomiting so much especially the few days before ending up there. Plus I had vomited quite a bit of blood after all the food and any bile produced or left after that, just kept wanting to vomit on an empty stomach. My husband took me there after speaking to my dr over the phone. I couldn't even keep a few sips of water down or milk. I managed to have a few sips of soda in with a few bites of a cheese sandwich but then then felt like I would be sick again. I was just wondering what the estimated cost would be with and without insurance. Here is a breakdown- Cost of stepping into emergency room cost of being seen by a doctor cost of getting two bags of iv drip/ fluids cost of a dose of Zofran (for the nausea) cost of a urine test cost of a couple of blood test cost of a sick note? cost of a presciption for zofran? I don't think I have missed anything, I think I was there for a couple of hours My husband has me covered on his insurance but it may come under before deductible. Any ideas before and after insurance. Generic Zofran is so cheap, I got it only for emergencies so I don't get dehydrated from vomiting so much, but the nurse told me it costs $100s for Zofran, that its not cheap, wow thats crazy The nurse who took my details and initially spoke to me was so nice and caring, but the nurse who I was left with to check up on me was rude, thankfully and fingers crossed, I have been managing my morning sickness well and the nausea is not as bad with the help of generic zofran from walmart. Walmart is the best unlike expensive walgreens. So whats your experience with emergency room costs/ bills especially for someone who has been in a similar situation to me? and also how did they treat you? Thanks in advance

  • Answer:

I wouldn't worry about it. The insurance will cover most of it and what they don't cover, it will either get paid or not. Most hospitals aren't too aggressive about getting their money because they are typically able to write off a big percentage of what they bill. If you are not working, you may consider getting on state benefits or medicaid now that you are pregnant. It would cover nearly all prescriptions. Also www.pparx.org can help you get your prescriptions at a lower cost sent to your doctor. Good luck and Congratulations.

You should have gotten a doctor at any outpatient community or county clinic and saved a lot of money by getting pre-natal care but you probably dont want to pay for your care. When you dont pay for ER services, guess who pays? I DO, the taxpayers do.

Since you have insurance, it really doesn't matter. Your deductible is for the entire year not each visit. So let's pretend your deductible is $1500. So this visit costs $1000 (I have no idea if that is right or wrong). So now you have $500 left on your deductible = you will "eat" this up with doctors visits before the baby. And anything over $1500 is paid for by the insurance excluding the copays you are just going to meet the deductible earlier than anticipated.
