  • how many years from the death do you have to claim the life insurance,in ireland,thanks......the death was 10 years ago on the 26th of may this year.i have tried to get the insurance years ago but the insurance company wouldnt pay out because of the circumstances of the death,it was a suicide.but recently i have heard of somebody in a similar scenario being paid out by the insurures.is their anyway or anything to do to get them to pay out even if only a percentage of the premium.thanks

    Many life insurance companies will not cover for suicide - the death has to be natural or accidental. The terms and conditions of the policy would clearly state this, and would explain whether there is a time limit on claims, so you need to get a copy of the policy documents, but you can only do this if you are the executor of the estate.

The other 2 posters are correct. The 10 years you are most likely thinking about are most likely in claims were someone is "believed" dead, but the body is never found, so they go to court and have the judge declare them dead, so then can collect for the insurance. good luck

You can always try again if you know the company, there is no time limit on this. However, if the policy excluded suicide or had a contestility clause and the cause of death were suspicious, they would have reviewed it.
