How to deal with insurance offers?

If my wife has health insurance through her parents will she lose her insurance if my job offers insurance?

  • I'm on my parent's health insurance and my wife is on her parent's health insurance. We are both under 26. If I get a job that offers insurance I know that I will be kicked off of my parent's insurance but my question is, will she be kicked off of her parent's insurance too because insurance is available to her through me?

  • Answer:

First, only plans that are "Grandfathered" can remove you from your parents plan. Quoted from the Healthcare.Gov website managed by the US Dept of Health & Human Services. --------------------------------------… Your children can join or remain on your plan even if they are: •married •not living with you •attending school •not financially dependent on you •eligible to enroll in their employer’s plan There is one temporary exception: Until 2014, “grandfathered” group plans do not have to offer dependent coverage up to age 26 if a young adult is eligible for group coverage outside their parent’s plan. --------------------------------------… No Where, No How, does anything ever say anything about the eligibility of a spouse coming into the equation. I have quoted DOL website and listed a link to the appropriate site that explains the correct regulations. Please show your "research' into how the possibility spousal coverage will affect her.

Yes. If you have access to a group policy through your employer or your spouses employer you will not qualify to stay on your parent's policy.
