Will the usps compensate for my loss if they lose my package?

As title said... i ordered some merchandises which costs about $70USD from Hong Kong. According to the tracking info my package has arrived at Chicago last monday. i havent received it yet so i called usps this afternoon and some1 told me my package was in the post office in my neighbourhood, after that i called the post office and they said they didnt have my package... im wondering if they will compensate for my loss? any1 got any ideas? thx p.s. i dont know which category this question belongs to so i will just put it here

The postal service won't compensate unless the package is insured. If it was insured you can file a claim at the site listed below in sources.

If the sender provided shipping loss insurance, you have recourse. If not, you're going to be sadly out of luck here. There is no loss payment by USPS without shipping insurance in place.

They should, if they didn't deliver it to your home and fedex and ups won't deliver to a po box they should reimburse you up to your receipt. The problem is their customer service dept stinks to high heaven. I would get on the phone asap and speak to the loss department, if it is signature required and they just dropped it off they must pay per their policy.

If you purchased insurance for the package, you will be compensated. Since you have some ability to track the package, track it again, print the results, then check with the post office again to see if they can locate the package.

even if you did not have insurance they should still cover up to a preset amount....you just have to call them and find out what they will cover

well i recently also ordered some shoes online they said they had sent it but they lost it i called the company and they sent me another pair free of cost. since ur order was from hong kong im not sure wht they will do. good luck tho :)
