How do I get a work permit during the summer in CA?

Can a 14 year old get a work permit over the summer?

• ok so im 13 right now but im turning 14 in may but ill still be in middle school and then i will go to high school. I want to know if I can get a permit over the summer and work during the summer so i have something to do (earn money lol). I live in NC and I want to work at Chik Fil A and I really want know. Another question is where do I get a permit and do I have to pay for it?

  Talk to your guidance counselor or principal at school about getting a work permit. Chik-Fil-A will not hire anyone under 16 (even with a work permit) for safety reasons. Their insurance will not cover you. At 14-15 your options for jobs are pretty much bagging groceries (Publix will hire at 14 sometimes if there's one in your area), horse farms (as a working student, but thats more of an unpaid internship), or odd jobs (such as mowing, babysitting, etc. for your neighbors). Also due to child labor laws you won't be permitted to work more than 8-10 hours per week.
