How much money does an IT agent make?

How much money should an Insurance Agent in TX make?

  • How much money per year should an insurance agent who has both, Life, Health and Surplus Lines license and Property and Casualty license be making per year? Just what ballpark. I currently work for an insurance company and make about 20K a year. I live paycheck to paycheck and i have heard about other agents who work in the same place that make more than twice what I make. (By the way we do not work for commission, we are all paid hourly) I am looking for a new job and I want to know what is a reasonable amount to request.

  • Answer:

If you're earning a SALARY, with less than three years experience, you're making about the going rate. An agent on "straight commission", will make about $60,000 a year, if they work 80 hours a week, for the first five years or so. After that, it's more money, and easier. You can always check with salary.com for specific positions - but you'll make more with an agency, than you will with a company.

you are not going to be paid a lot until you have a lot of sales to support a higher salary - they are not going to pay you more if you aren't selling enough - you have to be making commissions for the agency you work for that are far and above what your salary is before you start seeing any increase in pay

The vast majority make nothing, because they are paid only commissions and are not able to sell enough to get more in commissions than they need to cover their expenses. Any agent who is making something is doing better than most.
